The Department of Communication and Media Studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen (DE BTK) has been admitted to the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA), which brings together institutions involved in journalism training across Europe. This network, which has been active for nearly 35 years, has more than 80 European member institutions. During the admission process, one of the association leaders visits the applying institution (this year, the Finnish director, Anne Leppäjärvi, met with the department’s educators and students as well as the faculty leaders), and then, at the annual general assembly (held this year on October 17 at Babeș–Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca), the applying institution must give a presentation in front of the members. The process concluded with an open vote that yielded a unanimous result. EJTA, which organizes professional training programmes and European collaboration, offers development opportunities for both educators and students. From Hungary, the department at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) is already part of the network, and alongside the Debrecen department, the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Pécs was also granted membership in the organization at the Cluj-Napoca event.
