Dean's welcome

Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Debrecen!

Engler Ágnes

The mission and role of the Faculty of Humanities, which has been operating continuously since the foundation of the university, remain unchanged. These include, among others, the cultivation and transmission of cultural values, the education and upbringing of responsible and creative intellectuals, and the cultivation, teaching, and research of disciplines belonging to the faculty's structure. The Faculty of Humanities is the most complex unit of our university in terms of the heterogeneity of fields of study and programs. It features highly diverse humanities and social science disciplines with different focuses and criteria, along with programs based on them, accompanied by an outstandingly high number of instructors and students. The results and successes achieved through the joint work of the Faculty's instructors, researchers, staff, and students, as well as the further potential within our Faculty, form and strengthen a solid humanities identity, emphasizing the Faculty’s power to preserve and create values.

Education takes place in full-time and part-time (correspondence) systems, ranging from bachelor's programs through master's programs to doctoral training. The Faculty possesses the widest training portfolio: 20 bachelor's programs, 23 master's programs, 13 undivided teacher training programs, and 3 doctoral schools. Research activity at the Faculty is outstanding: currently, six research institutes, six MTA-TKI and "Lendület" (Momentum) research groups, and 5 research workshops are operating, and fifteen grant projects are running at the Faculty.

The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen considers international networking and the operation of international relations as its historical mission. Gaining experience abroad, instructor and student mobility, international exchange of experiences, and research and joint publications involving multiple countries have defined the operation of our Faculty and its predecessors for centuries. The Faculty currently maintains active relations with numerous foreign universities, research centers, and scientific organizations, and the number of cooperations is dynamically increasing.

Among the units and organizations operating at the Faculty, we frequently find initiatives that extend beyond the walls of the university. In these, institutions and organizations operating in various sectors of the city and the region appear as cooperative partners or, in some cases, connect to our faculty. These external relations manifest in various events, services, and trainings, with culture and art representing a priority area.

The community of students, instructors, and staff of the Faculty looks forward to welcoming everyone interested in our training programs, scholarly achievements, and diverse events.
