National Day & Mid-Autumn Festival of China

Chinese Festivities in Debrecen

The Confucius Institute at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen is proud to celebrate Chinese National Day and the beginning of the Mid-Autumn Festival in cooperation with the city of Debrecen on Thursday, October 1, starting at 6 p.m. on the recently inaugurated public square Dósa nádor tér.

The spectacular program prepared for commemorating the event will consist of presentations of Chinese songs and artistic calligraphy, a traditional fashion show and a wing chun kungfu performance, as well as a treat of mooncakes offered to the performers and the audience.

In the course of the preparation for the celebration, students of the Faculty of Humanities have been significantly assisted by the members of the Debrecen Association of Chinese Students enrolled at UD, who provided the traditional pieces of clothing for the show, together with the recipe and the molds for the mooncakes, which will be offered for tasting to all the participants present at the event.

This Mid-Autumn holiday is going to be made even more memorable with the help of a short film created specifically for this occasion by a former student of the Department of Communication at the Faculty of Humanities and the Multimedia and E-Learning Technical Center of UD, which presents what it means to be an international student in Debrecen from the viewpoint of two young Chinese individuals.

Debrecen’s Confucius Institute was founded in November 2019 as the result of cultural and educational cooperation between the University of Debrecen and Tianjin Foreign Studies University with the objective of teaching Mandarin Chinese language and promoting Chinese culture among the students of the university as well as the citizens of our town.
