Marco Trotta teaches the courses Modern and Contemporary European History and Institutions, History of Political Institutions, and Constitutional History at the Gabriele d’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara, where he serves as Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Mediterranean and Balkan Studies (MeBaS). He is a member of the Center for International Migration Studies at the University of Debrecen and of the Italian-Serbian research group based in Novi Sad within the project Italijansko-srpske književne i kulturne veze (Italian-Serbian Literary and Cultural Relations).He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the journal Italianistica Debreceniensis, an external expert of the Adriatic and Mediterranean Research Center (CiRAM) at the University of Macerata, the Scientific Board of the journal Rivista di Studi Storici del Mediterraneo, and the Editorial Board of Il Presente Storico, published by the Ugo Spirito and Renzo De Felice Foundation.

Michiel van Kempen

 

Professor is an internationally renowned authority on Dutch literature and Surinamese migration studies.

He has been teaching in higher education since 1987 and has been affiliated with the University of Amsterdam since 1994, where he has held the position of full professor since 2006. He is the author of 47 books and more than 400 scholarly articles. His work has been recognized with ten professional and state honors. In addition to the University of Debrecen, he has taught as a visiting professor at numerous higher education institutions in South Africa, the United States, Belgium, France, Germany, and the Czech Republic. He has served as editor and guest editor of several literary journals and has led numerous research projects.

Professor van Kempen has been teaching regularly at the Department of Dutch Studies within the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen for approximately twenty-five years. He has educated generations of students in Debrecen, while his scholarly cooperation with both the department and the Faculty of Humanities has also been highly significant. Their productive collaboration is reflected in joint academic conferences, publications, and research projects. He is a member of the editorial board of Acta Neerlandica, the department’s periodical published by the University of Debrecen Press. He is also an active contributor to the work of the Center for International Migration Studies operating at the Faculty of Humanities and was a keynote speaker at the Center’s 2022 conference.

In 2020, Professor van Kempen’s scientific cooperation with the University of Debrecen and his outstanding contributions to academic life were recognized with the MTA–DAB Pro Cooperatione Award.
